All present felt that this event should continue and directed Secretary Joe to inform the other Associations.

3. Note from C.C.A. regarding the disbursement of the Athletes Assistance Fund monies to teams at the Brier and the Scott Tournament of Hearts.

4. Secretary Joe brought to the attention of everyone that Clubs should investigate the CCA Development Fund criteria and should submit applications for funding as per forms.
All applications by Clubs must be endorsed by the Secretary of the Association.
The Kirkland Lake Curling Club has already submitted an application to assist in purchasing a new chiller for their Club.
The Trillium Foundation also has funds which may be accessed by Clubs. Correspondence on the issue was sent to all Clubs in January.

ITEM 4 - FINANCIAL REPORT

The unaudited report for the 2000-2001 season was presented.
• All amounts are projected to the end of the season.
• The general account shows a projected deficit for the year.
• Some outstanding revenues from Sponsors.
• The Playdown account shows a substantial loss for the year.
Discussion on various items of expense and revenue ensued:
• All Clubs have paid their assessment to the Association.
• Revenue by Zones is down in all areas.
• Participant Card fees are down from previous years.
There appears to be some discrepancies with regard to the number of participant cards purchased this season. It was noted that the Zone Chairman are responsible to ensure that all competitors have purchased cards prior to the start of the Zone or Association playdowns.

Motion by Bill Volume
Seconded by Ken Rafuse
That the financial statement as presented be approved.
Carried.

ITEM 5 -ZONE RE-ALLIGNMENT

Todd Turner spoke on this subject. He noted that he had approached all of the competitors at the Association Tankard Playdowns in Englehart and asked for opinions or suggestions.
Many felt that changes are necessary, but no concrete proposals for re-allignment were submitted. Some curlers feel that it may be time to look at an amalgamation with our “brother Association”, but that this subject be carefully studied before any decisions are made.

After some discussions, the following motions were made:

Moved by Florian Dandurand
Seconded by Ken Rafuse
That the Zone Playdowns for Senior Men be eliminated for the coming season and that all teams wishing to enter will go directly to the Association Playdowns. That the draw format for this event will be dictated by the number of teams entered.
Carried.

Moved by Ken Rafuse
Seconded by Mark Jones
That the Zone Playdowns for Junior Men be eliminated for the coming season and that all teams wishing to enter will go directly to the Association Playdowns. That the draw format for this event will be dictated by the number of teams entered.

Zone 3 report - Kent MacInnes - Report read and submitted.

Zone 4 report - Hugh Campbell - Report read and submitted.

Zone 5 report - Vic Mitchell - Report not available.

ITEM 9 - ASSOCIATION REPORTS

Association Tankard report Dave MacInnes Report read and submitted.

Association Senior report Rory MacDiarmid Report read and submitted.

Association Mixed report No report submitted, since there was no Association playdowns required.

Association Juniors report Bill Volume Report read and submitted.

Association Bantam report Bill Volume Report read and submitted.

Competitive Curlers report Todd Turner Report read and submitted.

Note from Todd’s report:
Competitive curlers have indicated that they would like to attend the Men’s Inter-Association meeting, but due to the scheduling of the meeting, it is impossible for players to attend, since they are curling at that time.
Secretary Joe noted that for the past two (2) years, the meetings were held on Thursday morning in order to allow the players to attend. For both years, only one player attended the meetings, thus it was decided by the executive of the Inter-Association, that the meetings will be scheduled for Saturday morning. This would allow delegates to attend the meeting without undue expenses to their Association as well as time away from the job.
Secretary Joe was asked to again bring this issue to the attention of the other Associations.

Bantam Boys report Ron McCuaig Report read and submitted.

Association Masters report Joe Gubbels Joe reported that no teams had entered this competition and he recommended that this event be abolished for the coming season.

Copies are attached to these minutes.

ITEM 10 - PROVINCIAL CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

Provincial Mixed Kent MacInnes Read and Submitted

Notes from Kent's report: This was the first year that the Provincial Mixed was held in the Spring.
Due to a lack of participation, our Association was only able to send one team to the Provincial Playdowns which was held in Thunder Bay.
The team of David MacInnes, Valerie MacInnes, Neil MacInnes and Judy Runnalls-MacInnes will represent Northern Ontario at the National Mixed Playdowns in Halifax, January 2002

ITEM 11 - BONSPIEL REPORT

Report was read by Bob Hardy.
32 Teams participated.
Thank-you letter will be sent to our sponsors.

The Kapuskasing Curling Club is scheduled to host the 2002 T&NO Bonspiel.
Due to the fact that they will be hosting the Provincial Tankard Playdowns one week prior to the scheduled dates of the Bonspiel, Bill Volume requested approval of a change in rotation with the Cobalt-Haileybury Curling Club.
Delegates from the C.H.C.C. agreed to the change, thus the Bonspiel will be held in Haileybury for the 2002 season and in Kapuskasing for the 2003 season.

ITEM 12 - C.C.A. REPORT

C.C.A. report was read by Joe Gubbels. Some Hi-lites are:

• The annual meeting of the Inter-Association will be held on the Saturday of the Provincial Men’s Playdowns, starting at 9:00 a.m.
• Nokia has informed that they will not be sponsoring the Provincial Men’s Playdowns.
Labatt Breweries have agreed to host this event for the 2001 season.
Further discussions will be held with Labatt in order to obtain a long-term agreement.
• The Men’s and Women’s Associations in Northwestern Ontario have been actively discussing possible amalgamation of their two Associations.
• That we investigate the possibility of holding the Provincial Seniors in the Spring.
This proposal will be brought to the individual Associations for discussion.
• Recommendation that the Provincial Mixed be held no later then the last weekend in March.
It was noted that some Clubs do not have ice available after the end of March.
• It was agreed that the positions of Provincial Mixed and Senior Men’s Chairman continue, however, in order to save expenses, the hosting Association will nominate a person to oversee the event but that the ultimate responsibility remain with the Provincial Chairman.

Motion by Bill Volume

Copies of all reports are attached to these minutes.

ITEM 14 - CHANGES TO BY-LAW # 11

Seconded by Paul Ashley

ITEM 15 - POLICE CHECK FOR COACHES.

Rory MacDiarmid reported on some suggestions made by Rob Gordon.
That if a format is in place at the C.C.A. or Curl Ontario level, that we adopt this format.
In the absence of the above, that we draft our own requirements and that this issue be brought to the Fall meeting for ratification.
Note from Paul Ashley: At the Provincial Junior Playdowns this year, the sponsor, Teranet, insisted that all coaches of the Junior Boys and Junior Girls teams have a valid police check certificate.

He has been in touch with potential sponsors and will know within a few days.

2. Special Olympics Curling.
Joe Gubbels gave a verbal presentation on the Special Olympics Curling Program at the Mac. This has been on-going for five years now and there are 18 Special Olympians that curl once a week. The Club provides ice time a a minimal charge of $ 10.00 per curler for the season and instructions are provided by members of the Club and volunteers parents. This a a very satisfying experience for all involved. Equipment is purchased by the Special Olympics. Brochures on this subject were distributed and all Clubs are urged to get involved with this worthwhile cause.

3. Amalgamation ???
Secretary Joe presented a discussion paper on this subject.
At this time, there are no plans to amalgamate with any other Association, however, due to the declining membership in all our Clubs and in all events, the financial status of our Association is in jeopardy. The presentation comprised of some “food for thought” and a suggestion that we will eventually have to look at this issue in detail.
A copy of the “paper” is attached.
