HELPFUL HINTS: From past experiences of Clubs who have hosted this Bonspiel, here are some helpful hints to make the Bonspiel more successful. - Posters should indicate that curling will be all day Friday. Some curlers may not be aware of this. - Do not accept post-dated cheques. This has been a problem in the past. - Have one or two teams in reserve in case of last minute drop-outs. This could be a problem for the Drawmaster. - Use common sense when approaching secondary ( local ) sponsors. These should not conflict with the main trophy sponsors. - Always invite representatives of the trophy sponsors to the various functions i.e. opening ceremonies and prize presentation. - Indicate Hotel / Motel accommodations on your poster including telephone numbers. - It has been a common practice to have a piper escort the participating teams onto the ice prior to a game on the Friday night. - Do not try to accommodate teams for special times. This will only lead to problems in the draw. - When making up the draw, make sure that teams are "flipped" after the first event, in order to avoid the same teams playing each other again in subsequent event. - Presentation of prizes should be done according to the following table: For Five (5) Event Bonspiel: First Event Second Event Third Event Fourth Event Fifth Event 1 2 3 4 5 6 9 10 11 12 7 13 15 17 8 14 16 18 For Four (4) Event Bonspiel: First Event Second Event Third Event Fourth Event 1 2 3 4 5 8 9 10 6 11 13 15 7 12 14 16 SPECIAL RULES: In the event that an extra end is to be played, a complete end, with eight (8) rocks and using the Free Guard Zone Rules will be used. Once competition is underway, a team has the option of a substitute player(s) and the reason for the substitution must be validated. Rules do not exclude players who have competed in the Bonspiel and have been eliminated from competition. Substitute players must play at Lead position, or in the event that two substitutes are used, must play at Lead and Second position. However, a team may elect to play with three players, having the first two players deliver three rocks each.
